On the way in to work this morning I added up the training hours for the year (no, not while driving--I take the bus). Official 2010 training started the first full week in January (starting January 4) and ran thru the weekend of the last race I did on Sept 25 (Cannon-Wells Du). The numbers below include all training and racing time for those 38 weeks of training. Here's the hours I put in between Jan 4 and Sept 26, 2010:
- Swim: 41.0 hours
- Bike: 123.5 hours (outdoor, indoor on trainer, Spinner or RevMaster)
- Run: 83.5 hours (indoor/outdoor)
- Weight/Strength: 38.0 hours (incl 1.75 misc training hours)
TOTAL Training Hours: 286.00
Average training time per week: 7.53 hours
Average training per discipline per week:
- Swim: 1.08 hours
- Bike: 3.25 hours
- Run: 2.2 hours
- Weights: .95 hours
2010 RACING BREAKDOWN: 18 Races in all
- 5k runs: 2
- 20k runs: 1
- 5 mile run: 1
- Duathlons: 4
- Triathlons: 4
- Mountain Bike: 1
- TT's: 5
I was going to do the Mankato Marathon on Oct 23 and planned on training thru that, but I had a set back after the Cannon-Wells which caused training to go into a tail spin so I bagged it. I am barely doing anything now--a couple hours a week--so if I kept adding those week on to the total it would bring the average per week way down, thus skewing the numbers. Below are the numbers from 2009 which on average are about the same as this year. I'll need to review the number for 2009 for the first 38 weeks of the year so I can compare apples-to-apples.
Here's the numbers from 2009:
Total Training Hours: 334.25 (but this was for all of 2009--52 weeks)
Average Hours per Week: 6.43
- Swimming: 41.25 hours (pool and open water)
- Cycling: 151.5 hours (outdoor, indoor on trainer, indoor on Spinner or RevMaster)
- Running: 101.5 hours (treadmill, outdoor)
- Strength/Weights: 40 hours
Average training per discipline per week:
- Swim: 1.09 hours
- Bike: 4.0 hours (technically, 3.99 hrs)
- Run: 2.67 hours
- Weights: 1.05 hours
2009 RACING BREAKDOWN: 20 Races in all
- 5k's: 2
- 10k's: 1
- 5 mile race (run): 1
- Duathlons: 5
- Triathlons: 3
- TT's: 6
