USAT does it again

Is it just my card, or did other people already receive their INCORRECT 2010 USAT license. For the second year, they have put my current age on the card instead of my 'race age'. My race age in 2010 is 40--placing me in the 40-44 age group. However, my card says my race age in 2010 is 39.

Why do they still adhere to the "race age is the age you will be on December 31 of the event year" method? That confuses people and obviously it confuses USAT too. Why not just go with the method of "Race age is determined by the year you were born." How easy would that be?

For events in 2010, if you were born in:
  • 1970 your age is 40
  • 1971 your age is 39
  • 1972 your age is 38

...etc, etc.

Does that make sense or am I missing something???

At least you got your card. Mine is still MIA. Who knows how old it will say I am.

Took this from their FAQ page - "International Triathlon Federation and USA Triathlon’s Age Group Competition rule: All age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31 of the year of the event."

Whatever. Most races will ask for your DOB and go by that. So, I pay little creed to USAT rules. Besides, at my age there are usually only 3 of us in the AG any way! ;)

At USAT Regional qualifier last year (the Apple Du) they printed one list of results, then had to fix it because people were all over the place. They are supposed to verify 'race age' from your DOB on your DL, but you know how the lines get--they look at your USAT card and move you along. I just logged into my dashboard and clicked on 'Print Temporary card' and that one is correct.

There is essentially no difference between race age is based on the year you were born and based on december 31st of the year. They do this so that you don't switch age groups in the middle of the season, which would affect age group rankings and possible National and World Championship placements.
